New Product Spotlight -

CP763 Concrete Vapor Block and Stadium Blue Novacaulk 1 & 2

Concrete Vapor Block:

We are currently field testing the effectiveness of a 100% acrylic, elastomeric, ready-to-use liquid vapor barrier for concrete. CP763 will penetrate the concrete and will prevent moisture from passing through the concrete base. CP763 has been field tested at a private tennis club in the U.S. and a roof top at a major university in Hong Kong. Advantages include: 1-coat application with minimal shrinkage, elastomeric properties (ability to expand and contract), 100% environmentally friendly and will form a tight bond with the concrete when completely cured. This coating will need at least 72 hours to cure before the next application of Novasurface. Feedback from the field test was helpful as we modified the formulation to make it easier to apply and less tacky.

Stadium Court Blue Novacaulk: Due to the recent high demand of Stadium Blue, we are now offering Novacaulk 1 & 2 in Stadium Blue one gallon pails.

Rocky Road...Trip with Bill Righter

Jake and I spent the last 3 months visiting customers throughout the country. In the Righter tradition we ate all of the regional food this great nation has to offer. (Café Du Monde/New Orleans, Tony Paco's /Toledo, Bullock's/ Durham, Calhoun's/ Knoxville, The Original and Primanti Bros/Pittsburgh) Now it's time for us to hit the gym. My dad would have been proud of us. The first day of our road trip we were driving through Hershey PA on a bitterly cold Monday afternoon. I asked Jake if he had ever been to the Hershey chocolate factory and he looked at me with the biggest smile I’d ever seen. As we drove into the city of Hershey a wonderful intoxicating aroma of cocoa and roasted nuts filled the air. I opened the car window to take it all in, even though it was only 3 degrees out. Without hesitation we decided the factory tour was quite necessary. Two Hershey sundaes and a few pounds of chocolate later, I said to Jake “welcome to Nova Sports, We are going to have a lot of fun the next few years!”

SPRAYING CUSHION

Over the last few years we have had several contractors converting to spray equipment for the application of our cushion systems. Because of their success in the field it seams to be a process of considerable merit. The spraying of cushion results in a higher yield (10-15%) and allows for a more uniform texture. Our installers have also found spraying helps the rubber stand up more creating a slightly added cushioned feel and possibly having a greater film thickness. The few negative aspects of this method are the high cost of equipment and a bumpy texture may exist if the to top coat is not applied using a squeegee. This seems to be an extremely attractive method for those without much cushion experience. Nova Sports chemist David Commito has been working very hard on our cushion formulas to enhance the ease of application. By blending premium Rhom & Haas acrylics with new EPDM rubber our goal is to provide a first-class product with an effortless installation process.

Squeegee tip:

When applying Ultracushion with our aluminum grooved squeegee, adjust the blade so that it’s in the position to apply the least amount of resistance.  Do not use a lot of pressure. This will allow the larger rubber particles to be applied evenly. When using either cushion system, set the windrow twice as wide as you would for regular color. For the final color coat someone should follow a few feet behind the last person pulling the squeegee with a soft haired broom. This will help give an even texture and may prevent streaking.

Rob’s Corner

A few months ago I was at a trade show and noticed that one of our competitors was now offering line paint in plastic jugs. They were also packaging materials in plastic drums. I take this as a compliment as we have been packaging line paint in jugs for over twenty years, and plastic drums for over ten years now. We are always looking for ways to make things better and easier for our customers. Last year we improved the characteristics of Novasurface with great success.

These are exciting times here at Nova Sports as we welcome the addition of my son Jake to the business. Jake is a third generation Righter to Nova Sports.

It has been a long cold winter here in New England. Our production staff is working hard building inventory for the spring rush.  Most of the contractors we have seen are optimistic for next year.

Raw material costs have gone crazy, and the price of acrylics has increased since last season.

Last year was another record breaking year as we are still growing.  We couldn’t have done this without your support. Thanks very much for being part of our family.

Hope you have a wonderful spring season .
